Good Morning Friends!

My Motivational Monday is a day late! But better late than never, right !?!

I have got to say, I am feeling especially behind this week.

We are coming off of Memorial Day weekend, which was a 4 day weekend for my husband and kids, and I spent the bulk of the long weekend helping my husband around the farm, we spent a lot of time together and got a lot of jobs done around the farm, but as you know, when one thing is running particularly well, it is usually at the expense of something else, and my house feels like it is in chaos.

I told the kids Monday evening they all had to ride the bus into school this morning (I usually drive them in, because it gives them an additional 45 minutes at home in the morning) So I could dive right into getting caught up on the housework and laundry. It is 9 am and I have cleaned the shower and toilets, done 2 loads of laundry and a load of dishes, so I am feeling like I am making progress, still a lot to do though.

What I am Working On….

Over the long weekend, I really was intentional about being gracious. I am reading Kind Is the New Classy: The Power of Living Graciously, and I am finding the book refreshing and inspiring. It seems we live in a world of blame, disrespect and social media confrontations, wouldn’t it be nice if everyone was just a little bit kinder? My efforts at being courteous, kind, and pleasant (and to be honest it really isn’t all that difficult) were rewarded almost everywhere I went. A kind smile to a stranger in the grocery store parking lot was acknowledged with wishes of a happy holiday weekend. I went out of my way to be helpful and thoughtful for my husband, fixing him a cooler to take with him during his fieldwork, and letting little annoyances go, and he surprised me with an impromptu trip to a new ice cream parlor I have been wanting to check out.

Overall my little attitude adjustment was a positive experience. What energy you send out into the world really does come back to you!

I am going to keep making an effort to be more courteous, kind, and pleasant, perhaps I will devote an entire post to being more gracious in the future.

On the menu for this week….

Tuesday: Ham and Swiss Stromboli with watermelon and corn
Wednesday: Dinner at the Ballpark California Club Chicken Wrap or sandwich
Thursday: Chicken Gyro
Friday: Dorito Taco Salad with cornbread (the kids favorite!)
Saturday: Hawaiian Chicken Kebabs with rice pilaf, and tossed salad
Sunday: Slow Cooked Beef Barbecue Sandwiches with cole slaw.

On my to-do list….

  • Can my first batch of salsa for the season! Tomatoes are still a long way away, but I picked up a Ball & McCormick Recipe Card Mix ~ Caribbean Fruit Salsa Mix at Tractor Supply and plan on using pineapple and mango. This will give me an opportunity to make a small batch of something before canning season is in full swing so I can purchase new supplies if needed, or tweak my system, and it sounds so good!
  • Buy a Night Gown and Bathrobe. I don’t want to get into this too much here (because I have a post planned), but the royal wedding has had me thinking about ladylike characteristics and appearances, which I think falls right in line with my 1950’s housewife challenge, and I’ve come to the realization what I sleep in is not only totally unattractive, I am not even sure it is that comfortable! Inspired by classy vintage peignoirs, I am on the hunt for something pretty, comfortable and more feminine than oversized flannel pajama pants and a raggedy t-shirt.  Wish me luck!

Looking forward to this week….

This week is the last week of school sports (all three of my kids, 2 girls, and 1 boy play softball/baseball) they all play in the school leagues and recreational or travel leagues. I love to watch them play, but if I am being entirely honest I prefer to watch the rec and travel leagues, they are just more competitive. The ending of the school sports season will free up a considerable amount of time, and mean less shuffling kids around for me. So yes, I am looking forward to the end of the school sports season so we can transition into our summer routines 🙂

Looking around the house….

While I was cleaning the main bathroom I noticed my walls could use a good cleaning, and I would like to update the curtains. I am thinking an inexpensive facelift of this bathroom may be in order.

My one big goal for this week…

Plant annuals.

When I type “plant annuals” it doesn’t seem to be big goal worthy, but gardening really isn’t my thing.

Over the years I have planted perennials to fill in a lot of our garden space, a space in between a sidewalk and our house that would look odd seeded down with grass, so I am stuck maintaining it as a garden. I still have a small section to weed, flowers to plant and mulch to spread. I really just want to get this done, I usually aim to have it all taken care of prior to Memorial Day.

Well, back to getting caught up. I hope your week is off to a great start! What do you have planned?

Blessings,
